The main objective of the project was the creation of modern means of expression and communication for the elderly, as well as the sensitization of the local society about the danger of social exclusion that they face.
The beneficiaries of the action were the older people-members of the Elderly Daycare Centre of the Municipality of Nea Ionia, who are over 60 years old, have low income and generally do not have access to information and the digital culture. This fact strengthens the exclusion and isolation of the elderly, who are unable to follow developments and communicate using modern means.
Through the project, older people had the opportunity to take advantage of the new technologies in order to create networks of communication with younger generations and the wider society, and felt that they are active citizens of this country.
A web log specialized on third age issues was created. The beneficiaries worked in teams in order to collect information, write articles, create and update the web page as well as to organize events for the sensitization of the public. At the same time quarterly informative bulletins were published and distributed to the members of the Elderly Daycare Centres and at the subway stations, ensuring the publicity of the project.
The project was implemented by ANCE in cooperation with the Elderly Centre pf N.Ionia and co-financed by the Hellenic Ministry of Employment & Social Protection (Actions for the enhancement of Employment with the active participation of Non Governmental Organisations).
